Ame's scar, revealed.
Ame’s maturity is made more obvious when examining the rest of her body as well; her figure is slim and agile from training, however, she lays claim to two…generous assets. She wears the standard shinigami garb wrapped tightly to cover all but her neck and arms, with many modifications made to suit her: both the hakama and sleeves are cut shorter than usual, ending just below the knees and elbows, respectively. These are merely for convenience—the shorter hakama prevents tripping, and the shortened sleeves are less liable to get in the way of work. Her hakama is modified further: a six-inch slit halfway on the outer side of each leg makes it easier to reach the holstered throwing knives she keeps strapped just above her knees. Her lieutenant’s badge, newly emblazoned with the marks of both the kido corps and fifth division, is strapped tightly to her ankle. The skin that would normally be revealed by her shortened hakama is covered by a pair of lavender coloured leggings which match her custom obi (which is far wider than standard, reaching from just below her breast to her hips) and over her head she wears her trademark hood, which is also lavender. Also unique in the Gotei are the sandals she normally wears—thick single-toothed tengu sandals which add about an inch and a half to her height. She remains perfectly poised in these perilous-looking shoes, but will sometimes remove them when battles reach a high level of intensity. Ame keeps her zanpakutou by her right side, in the traditional style. Overall, her outfit gives her a modest yet unique look.
Ame in her Gigai.
Personality: A calm and gentle air emanates from the Kido mistress, spellbinding the souls of the Rukon district where she often can be found. Tamano Ame nods to them with a kind smile, her hood down and sword sheathed. She often spends free time in the Rukongai, doing anything from healing the sick to helping mothers with their wash. She knows the strife of living in these cold and troubled streets, and wishes to help ease their burden. Ame’s down-to-earth generosity is a source of comfort to the citizens of the Rukon; her kind smile and soft manner of speech tells them she intends to do no harm, and indeed, she never would—she fancies herself a protector of the innocent when she makes her rounds in the Rukongai. These families are plagued by enough strife to last a lifetime; she knows that on a most personal level. She would never do a thing to make it harder for them.
Her kindness and respect for others extends to her officers, both inferior and superior, as well. She is a loyal and hard working person, having been taught the value of working hard early in her life. Ame holds deep respect for those in power, although she envies them greatly. She will obey orders as long as they are reasonable—if ordered to do something against her morals, or something lacking reason, she will rebel quickly. In everyday work, the task at hand is most important to her; daily calendars and careful planning are her main tools for making sure everything runs smoothly under her watch. She will not rest until a task is complete, foregoing meals and sleep when she must (which, all things considered, is not often). Her dedication is inexhaustible, and at times, frightening. She shows a great deal of care for her superiors, occasionally worrying about their well-being.
Also frightening is her thirst for power and knowledge. Her usually kind and demure manner conceals a capable warrior’s spirit and unyielding ambition. Ame’s low and at times brutal upbringing has left her with an almost compulsive need to rise higher in rank and power and a willingness to take extreme measures if necessary. This frightens her at times, and she often wonders what she will do if she ever reaches the end of the chain of command—the seat of Captain-Commander. Will she stagnate with no ranks left to climb? Will she betray the organization she has served for so long in pursuit of more? The thoughts scare her more than almost anything does, and in response she covers her fears up by serving her division as best she can. Her weekday schedule is precise: Ame always makes sure to reserve an hour every day before sunrise for meditation, followed by breakfast and then two hour’s training. After this she spends the day performing her duties, and once the day is done, she spends the evening in the Rukon district. She has weekends 'off'; her free time is often split between reading in the various libraries scattered library and socializing in the Rukongai or with other lieutenants. She wears her rank proudly, even in the Rukongai, but she will be the first to say that rank is not always indicative of a person’s worth or strength. Her pride comes from a solid belief that she has done everything possible to deserve her rank and knowing that she performs every task to the best of her ability.
Few things will anger her more than someone who refuses to live up to their potential; her fury is a cold and bitter storm that few have seen. Those who have seen it do not wish to see it again. Her demeanor changes, usually only slightly, around those people she perceives as weak of spirit: her politeness seems tinged with sarcasm, and fewer smiles grace her lips. More perceptive shinigami can easily detect the change and if they know her disposition, conflict is imminent. While she prefers to solve conflicts civilly, she is not afraid to enter battle if the other party declines her offer, and on the battlefield, she is a ruthless warrior. She will do anything necessary to become the victor. Kill, maim, cheat—all is fair when the stakes go up. She employs every method at her disposal with strategic precision. Ame pulls no punches, and her intelligence serves her well in battle—constant and fluid strategizing, along with a thorough understanding of physics gained through practice means that she is more than capable of dominating a battle and using an opponent’s strength against them.
Ame has a great deal on her plate—her job and her dedication to serving to people of Soul Society are large responsibilities. They tend to monopolize her time, and she doesn’t mind it. Still, she does have a fun side, and enjoys her hobbies hobbies and games as much as the next person. They are a way for her to wind down after particularly stressful days. She enjoys reading, and she keeps a book by her bed to read before turning out the lights. In addition, she adores erhu music; she owns one that she practices with often (even though her officers say she’s more than a little tone-deaf). Another of her favorite things to do is entertain, primarily where decorations and cooking are concerned. To bring people together in an environment that is comfortable and pleasant is both great fun and a mark of virtue; she tends to judge people by how they treat their guests, and can be quite accurate in her assumptions.

Ame's inner world.
The only method of entry is the single crimson torii gate that stands before the temple, as it is surrounded by high stone walls. The yard inside the walls is a quiet garden, decorated with a few ornate rocks and a lake to the left of the walkway leading to the entrance contains vibrant fish. Ame’s temple exudes a soothing aroma of incense, which can be detected across the hills yet never reaches the shore. Sconces that burn a pale violet light the inside of the small wooden structure and the seven sticks of burning incense rarely go out. Scrolls containing vast amounts of knowledge are stored on shelves in the back of the single-room temple.
Shichishitou.
Over time and with help from her strict meditation and training, Ame has become able to keep the beast quiet, and he spends his time skulking around in truculent silence, waiting for battle. He is forwardly ambitious and has a knack for sweet talk, which he often tries to use on Ame, beckoning to her to embrace her inner monster. To him, people are little more than stepping stones to greatness and he is willing to do the stepping. The fox is perfectionistic and fussy, not unlike Ame is in regards to her work, and having such a patient person as an owner has left him just a little spoiled. He enjoys fine things, and Ame has made sure that her blade is quite fine.
Shichishitou rarely enters the gates of Ame’s personal haven, the temple, instead running free across the shores and hillsides. The two have an antagonistic relationship, but have grown to respect one another (if begrudgingly). It wasn’t always so. In the beginning, he hated his owner. She was too “goody two-shoes” for him, and he was too bloodthirsty for her. It took years of conflict and inner turmoil for them to reconcile, and their battles destroyed parts of her inner world, including the high tower that used to be her refuge.
Ame's sheathed blade.
The scabbard is the only part of the sword ever to show wear. Occasionally it will become care-worn to the point of fading paint, Ame has it re-painted and repaired when it reaches this state. The blade itself is taken care of almost religiously; it is polished and cleaned once every month. When the hilt weaving becomes frayed, it is promptly replaced. The edge is honed whenever it begins to dull. Such dedicated care keeps Shichishitou happy, and Ame knows that her blade is not one to anger.
Shikai
Ame's shikai.
Zanpakuto Ability: Ame's shikai utilizes the power of lightning to inflict damage, and is also capable of temporarily paralyzing foes and manipulating metal with electromagnetism (though this power is limited). Her basic cutting attacks leave a "shocking" impression (discharging a small amount of electricity on contact; negligible at first, but repeated hits can hurt badly) she has a basic ranged ability to throw small balls of lightning that pack a more powerful zap than the blade itself.

Fighting Style: It is said that the best defence is a good offence. Ame takes that epithet and turns it on its head—her best offence is her stellar defensive strategies. She is a master at countering, using her opponent’s strengths against them to bring about their own demise. Both her kido preferences and her hand-to-hand combat style reflect this preference; she has trained considerably in Aikido and Judo, and has keen knowledge of the physics of fighting—the forces, energies, and movements that can be harnessed and redirected to her advantage. In addition to (or maybe because of such training), Ame’s own poise and balance are incredible, and it is difficult to knock her off balance, even in her treacherous sandals. She trains specially in Bakudo, and can use them to great effect to throw off, block, and confuse opponents. She has trained hard to be able to use Kyokko to conceal her Kido more effectively than most.
She is very quick when casting her Kido, and can use many without their incantations. Physical speed, however, is one of her weaker points—she is agile, but is usually surpassed by others of similar rank. What she lacks in foot speed she makes up for with her other strong points and her maneuverability; she can change direction on a dime, maneuver around obstacles and change her attacks’ direction at a moment’s notice. Ame's physical endurance is quite poor compared to others of her rank; to go toe-to-toe with an experienced and decently strong infighter will bring her to her knees if she takes more than a few hard hits.
While she is good at using her blade defensively (especially in shikai), her zanjutsu is generally poor. If she needs to use it offensively, she is better off leaving it in its sealed state, as it is easier for her to handle its sealed form when attacking. Ame’s only goal in battle is to secure victory for her own side. To that end, she is willing to use any tactic necessary, even if it would be considered underhanded. Subterfuge and the like are not out of the question; she normally does not need to resort to these, but they are always options in her book. She tries to avoid getting too physical, as her physical stamina is low, but when necessary she will go in blow for blow, remaining on the defensive as always. Her throwing knives usually keep opponents at range, and her shikai allows her to draw the blades back to her whenever she runs low (or sees an opportunity to deal some extra damage by summoning them back to herself with opponents in the way).
Ame is capable of fighting proficiently both alone and in a group; she can use her Bakudo to cover her allies and will take hits for them if she feels she can and must. She appreciates her allies when she has them, and is good at determining their strong points. While not the excellent group tactician that she could be, she is capable of directing group battles in her captain’s absence.
