Name: Iwata Kayako
Age: 23
Date of Birth:
Gender: Female
Occupation: Crime Scene Technician
Residence: Karakura
Alliance: None
Rank: None
Appearance:
Kayako is a bit tall, standing at 5' 7" when barefoot, and built averagely with particularly toned legs. Her face is round and a little childlike, and some people mistake her for a high schooler even though she's graduated college. Her hair is a bleached strawberry blond, kept long and tied back with a long blue ribbon in a lopsided ponytail when off the job. When on duty she piles it all under a KPD hat except for her bangs, which sweep to her right, and two short strands that escape being put up on either side. Even on the job, her ribbon peeks out from under her hat. Her eyes are a deep blue and convey the friendly energy that she performs any task given to her with.
Her favorite color is yellow, and she likes to include it in her wardrobe whenever she can. Occasionally some would argue that she wears too much of it, a sentiment she politely disagrees with.
Personality:
Kayako is a kind person at heart, always concerned with how she can do the most good--that drive is what brought her to her current career, and what gives her courage when her unique abilities give her enough trouble to make her want to quit. Some say she's got a naive heart, and it's generally true; she trusts people easily with most things and believes that most people are genuinely good at heart. Underlying her apparent naivete is a scientific mind that thrives on analysis and demands proof of anything before considering it seriously.
History:
Kayako was born to a decidedly normal family in Tokyo, where she grew up with many problems. She was a fussy and colicky child, especially when the time came to send her to school. In the throng of students she seemed to cry constantly and her mother eventually noticed that the larger a crowd was, the more baby Kayako fussed. Her teachers grew tired of it, and after a month of this trouble Kayako's mother withdrew her from the school in favor of homeschooling.
Kayako was seldom taken on trips outdoors due to her relentless and seemingly incurable crying fits and a rift slowly grew between her parents as she grew older in isolation. By the time she was to begin third grade, her mother wondered if she had gotten any better. She took the risk of returning the girl to public school when she was in third grade.
On her first day back, Kayako got in a fight. She insisted that the boy had been mean to her, but her teacher said differently--they had been speaking quite civilly and she jumped on him with no provocation. Her mother removed her from school once again, and between her problem daughter and now constant fights with her husband, Mrs. Iwata was at her wit's end. Kayako grew even fussier at home as the atmosphere grew more tense between them, even though they took great pains to hide their strife from their daughter. The embattled parents finally decided to send her to a psychiatrist while they prepared their divorce papers.
Kayako's time with the therapist was unproductive at best, and she could never give any reason for her tension in a crowd or her newfound aversion to her home. Occasionally she found herself accusing the therapist of wanting her "gone"--when she asked what Kayako meant, she could only shrug and say it was just a feeling. She couldn't diagnose her at all, and resigned herself to simply listening to Kayako during their sessions, hoping for a breakthrough. Therapy wasn't something that sat well on young Kayako's mind--she felt as though everyone thought something was wrong with her, when she didn't think there was.
When her parents sat her down to explain what was happening, she didn't cry. She felt as though she'd already known that divorce was coming, even if she didn't know what the word for it was at the time. All she could do was apologize.
Kayako's mother took residence with her own mother in Karakura Town, and after a rocky move in which Kayako refused to talk to anyone at all, her mother was finally able to air out the trials she'd faced. It took some time, but Kayako's grandmother eventually thought she had an idea of what could be wrong with her granddaughter. It was a great feat getting Kayako to talk to her, but eventually she did and after a few questions her suspicions were confirmed: Kayako was like her, an empath who could sense other people's emotions. When she found out that there was someone else in the world like her, Kayako cried.
Fighting Style:

Kayako has a 20 (or so) tatami 1LDK apartment, which she pays like 55,000 yen for each month, she passed on a department-paid place because KITTY IS NOT NEGOTIABLE
and she gets it that cheap mostly because she had a badass agent and it's like a 25 minute walk to the nearest station, usually at that size and allowing pets it would have probs been More
its a lil dark but with her and princess mittens its perfectly cozy
all the floors are hardwood so they're easy to sweep, mittens has a kitty tree and one of those fancy covered litterboxes and scratching post and like three kick toys and she loves the kotatsu
there was a rug but Kayako picked it up and keeps it in the closet instead, it means no respite from cold floors in winter but also means not having to vacuum cat hair out of the carpet
she keeps the place tidy but isn't particularly fussy about it and sometimes goes lax on the dishes especially when its been a long work week
there's a drawer dedicated to cute bento making stuff like shaped scoops and cute boxes
most of her cups are those that you can't knock off desks but can pick up easy because mittens has a bad habit of bopping cups off the tables
if you go in her apartment youre not required to wash the dishes but you gotta put them in the sink because she'll knock those too
one of kayako's neighbors across from her is a little old lady that has a spare key and kayako's number so if kayako is on a scene and can't give mittens food or just gets worried about her kayako will text her and be like mrs ozawa can you look in on princess mittens? and mrs ozawa luvs that lil kitty so she always does
at night in winter the kitty bed goes up on the kotatsu
she has a low couch that you can sit under the kotatsu on and she has like three squishables and a boxfox
