A tense peace between Shinigami and Quincy has stood untested for a century or more. Their mutual agreements have saved the Quincy from certain destruction at the cost of placing them at the mercy of their allies--so far, things have gone well. Still, both sides have become uneasy and pockets of discontent that were buried in the name of peace have begun to rise. Soon, however, they may have a larger problem on their hands.

One man's attempts to grab power have become a quiet bid for the ultimate goal: eternal life, a promise extended to all who ally themselves to him and all they hold dear. With enticing offers given only to select people, he silently builds a formidable force with an unknown method to their workings. Who are these mysterious conspirators?

Meanwhile, another front is building against the Shinigami--arrancar are stirring. As more hollows realize their power and become those of the torn masks, they too conspire, dreaming of a world where they rule unopposed. Still, they remain outnumbered, and all but the most suicidal bide their time in the blasted lands of their own dimension.
