Appearance:
Haruhi is a sharp dresser, but a free spirit at the same time—it’s not uncommon to see her in power suits of wild colors, with wide lapels and a white tie. She accessorizes well, with gold bangles that reflect well on her rich brown eyes and are always set with gemstones to match her outfits. A pair of large star-shaped earrings are her signature, and complete almost every one of her outfits along with chunky designer heels. When the cameras are off, she retains her snappy dress style but goes a little more casual. She wouldn’t be caught dead in public in a tee-shirt.
She’s a woman of regular build, and if it wasn’t for her clothing choice and makeup she would probably look quite ordinary, albeit naturally photogenic. She never lets herself be seen without her makeup and wardrobe of choice; she feels naked in anything else. Her hair is black and straight, reaching down to her back and well cared for. Two strands are pulled over her shoulders and frame an oval face with slightly hooded eyes (which are hard to notice through some clever application of eye shadow). Concealer hides a peppering of freckles over her nose and cheeks when she’s on camera, but this is the only thing she’s ever willing to do away with in public—she doesn’t like to wear it at social events when the camera is gone. Her brows are only slightly arched, and plucked well.

Personality:
Haruhi on the TV screen is perky and charming, able to make any news interesting and objective; she researches her stories well even in the limited time she has to do it. A dedicated reporter and shining TV personality, some people say she’s as popular as an idol singer. It may be an understatement, but not by much. She’s a prolific figure in Karakura Town, and no big event is complete without her on the scene haranguing the movers and shakers for a sound bite. Haruhi believes in an informed public, and so she does her best to provide them with as much information as she can. Once the cameras go off, Haruhi has another side to her—when she’s off the record she’s vulgar as any sailor, and nothing gets her going like a good party; she particularly enjoys private karaoke nights with her pack of friends. She loves to laugh and have a good time, very unlike her squeaky clean TV personality.
She’ll be the first to admit that she’s a little bit vain; her degree and determination may have got her her job, but she’ll testify that it’s her looks that rocketed her to where she is now (it’s not as true as she thinks it is). Her makeup is an integral part of who she is, and she doesn’t mind that one bit. Whatever she does, she wants to look good doing it.
Taking the third option is a special talent of hers; if she’s given a choice between two things that she wants, she’s bound to figure out a way to have them both. The world will always be her oyster, she asserts, and why have one oyster when two is twice as nice?
Motivation is key to her, and she finds it almost impossible to do things that she doesn’t feel motivated to do. Biting the bullet is an exhausting task for her—if she doesn’t want to do something it will take her incredible amounts of time and effort to do it. Conversely, the things she wants to do are done almost effortlessly. When nothing motivates her she finds herself in a terrible rut, and being in such a state causes her great anxiety. Her worst fear is stagnation, and she considers herself lucky to have discovered her calling in journalism.
History:
Nanase Haruhi was a completely ordinary baby, born in Karakura town. As she grew older she was a completely ordinary girl, if a little unmotivated (her teachers lambasted her unwillingness to choose a path for her career)…until she was chosen to give the morning announcements one week in her first year of high school. She realized quickly that that was it—that’s what she wanted to do with her life. Reporting came naturally to her, and when she turned on the microphone she had a magnetic spark that nobody had ever known she had (not even herself).
Once her short stint with the morning announcements ended, she immediately got in with the student newspaper, where she remained throughout high school and eventually became the lead writer for. When it was time for her to go to college, her parents gave her the choice to take online courses and travel (on their budget, provided she find a job to support herself within a year) or stay home and go to Waseda, a leading journalism school in the Tokyo metro. She chose both—enrolling in online courses at Waseda, she then moved to Osaka for a change of scenery, and later packed and moved again, to Aomori. She successfully finished her online courses early, taking about three years, and used the money she saved from working paid internships and various odd jobs to take day-trips around the Tohoku area before returning to Karakura and easily landing a job on the News at Noon team.
She quickly became well-known (and in some circles, infamous) for her persistent yet magnetic personality; no scoop is too small and no bystander too obscure to add something valuable to the story. Men began to lavish her with gifts and money to have a prominent place in her stories, and at least one musician has gotten a big break from her (at least, that’s what she says). She spends her days researching the next big story, and she couldn’t be happier with how her life has turned out.
